Dry Ridge Roofing

Dry Ridge Systems

Traditional ridge and verge tiles are bedded in mortar. Over the years that mortar cracks, washes out and lets the tiles work loose, which is one of the most common reasons we get called out after a windy spell.

A dry ridge system fixes each ridge and hip tile mechanically with a union and a screw into a secured batten, with a breathable roll underneath. Dry verge does the same job along the gable ends, and dry valleys replace mortar pointed valleys.

We fit dry systems on new roofs as standard where they suit the roof, and we can retrofit them to an existing tiled or slate roof when the ridge or verge needs re-bedding.

Good to know

Dry Ridge Roofing: common questions

What is dry ridge roofing?

A system that fixes ridge and hip tiles mechanically, with unions, screws and a breathable roll, instead of bedding them in mortar.

Why choose dry ridge over mortar?

Mortar cracks and washes out over time, which lets tiles work loose. A dry fixed ridge stays secure and needs far less maintenance.

Can you fit it to my existing roof?

Usually, yes. When a ridge or verge needs re-bedding, we can lift the tiles and refix them with a dry system instead.

Does it work on slate roofs?

Yes. Dry ridge and dry verge systems are made for both tiled and slate roofs.

Is it guaranteed?

Dry ridge fitted as part of a new roof is covered by the new roof guarantee. For retrofits, the cover is set out on your quotation.
